Bethel 2000 And Beyond! A Report of the Vision and Goal Committee "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in past times to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son." These words are spoken to us in a letter that was written to the Hebrews almost 2000 years ago. Those same powerful words are still relevant to us today as we prepare to cross the threshold of a new century. We believe that God has had His hand of blessing upon Bethel Assembly of God Church from its inception in 1930. And now as we look to the future we ask with expectant yet humble hearts to how we fit into God's plan for our area. Our dreams our needs and our prayers are reflected in the following thoughts. We envision a church in which people attend because of an insatiable thirst for the presence of God. It is our desire that an expectancy to receive from God will prevail in our assembly together. We will strive to bring more variety and creativity into our worship services and raise up people who are willing to bath our coming and going with a blanket of prayer. We will create a network of prayer partners that will lay down a foundation on which our church will build and grow. We will be known as a church of prayer. We recognize that God's heart is centered in providing salvation to all. In recognition of this, we will strive to challenge every adherent to be soul winners. Our church will make opportunities available for people of all ages to take missions trips. We will model Acts 1:8 in both local and foreign evangelism. Missions will be a strong thrust in our church from young to old. Our community will become aware that our church has a passion for the lost, and an acceptance of those that are hurting, without any exclusion. It is our passion that we see new people, from the area, in church every Sunday because we are offering something they need. With new people coming to know the Lord, we recognize that the need for adequate discipleship and instruction is a mandatory component of our Church's future. Utilizing the navigation of the older and the energy of the younger, we will develop a system of training and mentoring in which we can push one another on to the finish line that is set before us. As a church we will strongly encourage people to commit to our church through membership and in doing so seek out reasons that may have held people back from membership in the past. Cohesiveness is important in any organized group of people, and the unity of our church is of utmost importance as we look toward the future. We envision a church in which old disagreements are laid down, and new disagreements are discussed and resolved. We will be a group of people that enjoys spending time with each other, and will be a church that is marked by the love that we show for one another and the safety that is represented within our numbers. As a church we will put action to our faith by involving as many people as possible in Christian service. We will encourage our kids and youth to help us as we reach out to those less fortunate, or to people who have unmet needs in the world in which we live. Every one who calls our church home will have a job that they are responsible for within the church. And each one will be able to clearly state that job if asked. We will be a church that is marked by willing workers, and a church that is willing to give priority to the things of God. As we all deal with change in our personal and professional lives, we also must grapple with change within the church as well. We recognize the unique challenge that is presented to us in the large area that our church covers. We will effectively build a "Satellite" outreach ministry in which we can reach out into the communities that comprise our church. We understand the need to update and reevaluate how we do things in order to avail ourselves to new methods, technologies, and resources. In other words, the message stays the same, but the methods change. Our church will be a leader in modernizing how we do ministry with respect to the standards and practices of those who have been before us. Our facilities will reflect a people that are proud of the God in which they service. The church building, equipment and resources will be evaluated on a regular basis to see if any changes can be made to better accommodate our needs. We will serve our community by hosting, supporting, and being involved with more Inter-Church Associations such as Community V.B.S., Cantatas, and Services. As a church we passionately want to grow in stature in the community by breaking down the false stereotypes that have been wrongly portrayed. Our church will strive to provide a welcome wagon for new residents, and unselfishly reach out and meet the needs that we see outside the four walls of our church. We desire to be the spiritual salt within this community. Finally we envision our church as a regional outreach center for people in our region to come and experience the power and presence of God. We not only want to make a difference in our families and community, but we want to impact the region in which we live. We will strive to get our house in order so that we will have something to offer to the Kingdom of God. We believe that Christ is coming soon. But we also believe that there is much work that must be done before that trumpet sounds. These aforementioned dreams are our plans for "occupying till He comes,” even so, come quickly Lord Jesus. |
